Islam has become the fastest growing religion in the world
Islam became the world's fastest-growing religion between 2010 and 2020, with nearly 350 million people joining the ranks of Muslims, according to a new study released by the Pew Research Center.
In fact, Islam is the second largest religion in the world, with nearly two billion people identifying as Muslim. Those who follow Islam make up a quarter of the world's population. Their share of the world's population has now increased by 1.8 percentage points to 25.6 percent.
The report says that based on data from 2015 to 2020, the average Muslim woman is expected to have 2.9 children over her lifetime, compared to 2.2 for non-Muslim women.
The largest growth in Islam relative to other religions was observed in Kazakhstan, Benin, and Lebanon, while the share of Muslims decreased in Oman and Tanzania.
