Is Israel and Lebanon on the brink of war?


The Israeli government has approved the call-up of an additional 50,000 reservists to prepare for a possible escalation on the front with Lebanon. The total number of troops in active reserve has been raised from 300,000 to 350,000 in preparation for possible fighting with Lebanon in the north. This statement was made against the backdrop of increased shelling from Lebanon into Israeli territory in recent days. On June 4, it was reported that fires broke out in northern Israel after regular shelling, particularly in the city of Kiryat Shmona.

"If anyone thinks that we will sit quietly when we suffer losses, they are seriously mistaken," Netanyahu added.

The United Nations has expressed serious concern over the escalation of tensions on the border between Lebanon and Israel and called on both sides to de-escalate. Stefan Dujarric, the official representative of the UN chief, informed about this at the briefing.
