Iran takes another step towards nuclear weapons

Iran has begun moving to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Officially, Tehran has notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of its decision, marking the first step towards developing nuclear weapons.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bekai said in a statement that the country's parliament is preparing a bill to withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

"The minimum measure that should be taken in the current situation is to withdraw from such agreements," Bekai said in an appearance on state television.

Yesterday, the Iranian leadership announced that it had ended cooperation with the IAEA, accusing the organization of providing information about Iran's nuclear program to Israel.

Meanwhile, Iran's enrichment of uranium to the level of nuclear weapons production is already seen by Israel as a reason for war.

Iran says the enrichment is for civilian purposes only, but the US and Israel are not going to let up on the pressure.

The decision to withdraw from the treaty is being seen as the first official step towards the production of nuclear weapons.
