India imposes ban on import and transit of Pakistani goods

An immediate ban on the import and transit of goods from Pakistan has been imposed by an official decision of the Indian Directorate General of Foreign Trade, RIA Novosti reported.

It is said that these measures were taken in the interests of national security and public policy, and they will remain in effect until further official notice.

The official statement said, "The direct or indirect import and transit of all goods manufactured in or exported from Pakistan, irrespective of whether they were previously in a liberal or permitted category, shall be prohibited with immediate effect. Any exceptions may be made only with the prior permission of the Government of India."

These measures were announced following an armed attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 of this year. The terrorist attack killed 26 Indian citizens and one Nepali citizen .
