Hundreds of bodies left on the streets in Congo
More than 900 people have been killed and more than 3,000 injured in clashes between M23 rebels and government forces in the eastern city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Red Cross workers are continuing to collect the bodies of victims, but the number of victims is so high that the dead are still lying on the streets. In the hot climate, timely burial remains important.
The Congolese government claims that the Rwandan government is behind the rebels. According to the UN, about 4,000 Rwandan soldiers are fighting in Congo.
Because these minerals are in high demand on the international market, there are constant clashes between armed groups for control of them.
Southern African countries and international organizations are working to resolve the conflict diplomatically, but in the meantime, the people of Goma are forced to live in hope that peace and security will return.
