French Muslims demand justice after mosque massacre

Earlier, we reported that a 20-year-old man was stabbed in a mosque in France.

Following the incident, the French press accused Interior Minister Bruno Rétay of inciting hatred against Muslims and reacting too late to the murder.

According to Le Figaro, Retayo delayed his visit to the scene of the killing of young Muslim Aboubakr Cisse at a mosque in the La Grand Combe district on Friday by two days, a delay that is considered excessive by political standards.

French President Emmanuel Macron also did not respond to the incident for two days.

However, Macron reacted very quickly to the incident in Vancouver, Canada, where a car was driven into people.

Prime Minister François Bayrou became the first official to condemn Islamophobia over the incident on Saturday evening.

Video footage from the crime scene shows the killer making insults about Islam and continuing his violence.

Also, while the prosecutor's office initially attributed the incident to a conflict within the mosque community, eyewitness testimony and video footage refuted this claim.

Le Parisien newspaper revealed the killer's explicit Islamophobic statements. The prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the case of premeditated murder, which involved 40-50 stab wounds. Although the prosecutor said that "there is a possibility of an Islamophobic motive," the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has not yet taken over the case. Lawyers for the victim's family, Cisse, are calling for the case to be treated as an act of terrorism.
