20-year-old man stabbed in mosque in France

A 20-year-old Muslim man, Aboubakr Cisse, was brutally stabbed to death at a mosque in the village of La Grand-Combe, in the Occitanie region of France, euronews reported.

According to the report, the murder is believed to have been committed on the basis of Islamophobia. Only the victim and the killer were in the mosque at the time of the crime. Surveillance cameras showed the suspect uttering abusive words.

French prosecutor Abdelkarim Griny said more than 70 operatives were involved in the capture of the criminal. After a two-day manhunt, Olive A., born in 2004, surrendered to police in the Italian city of Pistoia.

The prosecutor's office is investigating the crime as a premeditated murder, while the victim's family is demanding that the case be transferred to the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.

Protests against Islamophobia have been taking place across France since the incident. A "white march" was held in La Grande-Combe with the participation of 2,000 people. In Paris, a rally was organized on the Place de la République, called by left-wing parties and civil society organizations. Demonstrators held slogans such as "Islamophobia kills, the state is an accomplice" and "Justice for Abu Bakr."
