Fierce clashes are taking place between the Syrian army and Kurdish militants in Aleppo
In the eastern part of Aleppo, bloody clashes continue between Syrian army units and militants of the Kurdish coalition - the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Sham TV reports. The parties are also exchanging artillery and rocket attacks. Government troops have closed land routes leading to SDF-controlled areas in the provinces of Aleppo, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor. The SDF has blocked crossings across the Euphrates River.
The fact is that negotiations between the SDF and the Syrian transitional government have ended in failure. The goal of the negotiations was to integrate Kurdish forces into the regular Syrian army and transfer civilian and military facilities to Damascus' control. However, no agreement was reached.
The Kurdish side is demanding the introduction of a system of regional independent governance in the northeast of the country.
