Egypt denies reports of Gaza evacuations
The Egyptian government has categorically denied reports that it is planning to relocate 500,000 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to North Sinai. The country's state news agency issued an official statement confirming that there is no such plan.
The statement stressed that Cairo will not allow the forced displacement of Gaza residents and considers it unacceptable for the Palestinians. Egypt also sees this move as a threat to national security.
"A number of media outlets have reported that Egypt is allegedly ready to resettle 500,000 residents of the Gaza Strip to northern Sinai. We categorically reject this information," the Egyptian state news agency said in a statement.
Earlier, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had told Arab leaders that a certain number of Gazans could be temporarily relocated to North Sinai and reconstruction work could be carried out there. However, Cairo has dismissed the claims as "baseless."
For information, Egypt has been strongly opposed to any efforts to expel Palestinians from their land since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023.
