Ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel extended

The White House announced that the US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel has been extended for another three weeks, until February 18, 2025.

According to reports, Lebanese, Israeli, and US officials are planning to hold talks on the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023.

However, the Israeli army has not yet completed the withdrawal of its troops from the occupied territories in southern Lebanon. According to a previous agreement, the Israeli army was supposed to hand over its positions to the Lebanese military by January 26. However, 22 people were killed and 124 were injured during yesterday's attacks.

The Israeli army stated on January 24 that the process of fully withdrawing its troops was taking longer than planned and that additional time was needed to complete the process.

It should be noted that the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel entered into force on November 27, 2024. According to the agreement, the Israeli army was supposed to leave Lebanon within 60 days. However, since the agreement came into force, Israel has continued to violate the ceasefire with actions such as shootings and house demolitions.
