Bangladesh leader urges world community not to be indifferent to Rohingya crisis
Bangladeshi leader Muhammad Yunus has called on the international community to take more serious action to end the "ethnic cleansing" against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
Speaking at a conference in Cox's Bazar, home to the world's largest refugee camp, Yunus said that "Bangladesh is currently hosting more than 1.3 million Rohingya and this is a heavy burden on the country's economy."
"Bangladesh is working tirelessly to resettle the Rohingya, but this should not be our only concern. The international community must also not be indifferent to the fate of the Rohingya Muslims," the minister said.
Yunus also warned that due to political and economic difficulties in Bangladesh, the country does not have the ability to access additional resources to alleviate this situation.
For your information, this conference is organized ahead of the UN meeting to be held in New York on September 30. At this meeting, Bangladesh is expected to demand stronger measures at the international level.
