Most of the dead and injured in armed attacks in Dagestan are Muslims.

According to the Baza Telegram channel, at least five civilians were injured in the armed attack. The head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, announced that more than 15 security personnel, the head of the police department of the city of "Dagestanskie Ogni" Mavluddin Khidirnabiev were killed in repelling the attack.

Also among the victims are archpriest Nikolay Kotelnikov, archpriest of the church in Derbent, and a church guard.

The National Counter-Terrorism Committee reported that five armed men who attacked a church, a synagogue and a police station were killed during the operation.

According to preliminary information, the armed attack was carried out by a group of two sons and a nephew of Sergokalin district head Magomed Umarov. During the interrogation, the former official stated that he abandoned his relatives and that no one in his family supported them. He has already submitted his voluntary resignation.

Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, called the tragedy in Dagestan an attempt by Russia's enemies to destroy interreligious tolerance in the country.
