Anti-corruption protests begin in Morocco
Protests against widespread corruption in the country took place in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Reuters reports that young people have been taking to the streets for the third day, demanding solutions to problems related to corruption in the health and education sectors. The protests are mainly taking place in the cities of Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Tangier and Oujda.
The protests are said to have been organized by an anonymous group called "GenZ 212" via the social media platforms TikTok, Instagram, and Discord.
Meanwhile, police have arrested young people who were shouting anti-corruption slogans or giving interviews to journalists about it. Dozens of people are reportedly being arrested in different cities. Among them is Najat Anuar, the head of the Association for the Protection of Children. She said she had come to investigate reports of minors being arrested, but she was also arrested.
The main reasons for the protests are poor conditions in hospitals, a shortage of doctors, equipment, and poor quality of medical services. Young people are also dissatisfied with the state of education and are demanding that the government be held accountable for the situation.
