Another African country has canceled military cooperation with France
Chad's government has canceled a long-standing security and defense industry cooperation agreement with France. The French military was serving as a defense force in the country.
The government of Chad has announced that it has canceled a security and defense industry cooperation agreement with France that was renewed in 2019. In a written statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chad, it was stated that the decision to cancel the agreement was announced to the national and international community.
The statement noted that this decision is part of the process of declaring Chad's full sovereignty after 66 years of independence and redefining strategic partnership relations according to national priorities. It noted that the Chadian government will abide by the conditions set out in the termination process and will work with the French government to ensure a smooth transition.
It was emphasized that this decision of Chad will not affect the friendly relations between the two countries, and determination to continue constructive cooperation with France in other areas of common interest. The government also thanked France for its support so far under the agreement and expressed its openness to working on new cooperation models.
It is noteworthy that this decision was made a day after the meeting of French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot with Chadian President Mohamed Idris Deby Itno.
