South Korean police have launched an investigation against President Yuk Seok-yol, who declared a state of emergency.

Law enforcement agencies interviewed by AFP confirmed that an investigation has been launched against the current head of state.

According to reports, law enforcement agencies have received two complaints against the president: the opposition Korean Revival Party and 59 activists.

In addition to the head of state, the authors of the petition also accused former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, Chief of the Army General Staff General Park An-soo, and Interior Minister Lee Sang-min of treason.

The Republic's Prosecutor's Office has banned the former head of the Ministry of Defense, Kim Yong-Hyong, from leaving the country, accusing him of preparing for a rebellion and treason.

South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol declared a state of emergency in the country for the first time in 45 years on December 3. Parliament and political parties were banned. The head of state explained his decision with the need to "protect the constitutional order and eliminate North Korean supporters inside the country."

Dissatisfied with the government's actions, protesters gathered in front of the parliament building. Police blocked the entrance to the parliament and military equipment appeared on the streets of the city.

After a few hours, 190 of the 300 deputies managed to enter the parliament and voted to lift the martial law. Opposition leader Lee Jae-men called the president's decision "unconstitutional" and condemned it as an "anti-people" step. Later, the South Korean president agreed to lift the martial law imposed in the country.

The South Korean opposition also presented the impeachment bill against the president to the parliament. Voting should take place within 24-72 hours after the draft is considered at the meeting. 191 deputies from six opposition parties supported the introduction of the impeachment bill. There are a total of 300 legislators in the parliament, 108 seats are occupied by the "Civil Power" party of the president. 200 votes are needed for impeachment.
