An explosion occurred near the cemetery where Soleimani was buried in Iran

At least 73 people were killed and 170 injured in an explosion near the cemetery where General Soleimani was buried in Iran.

In the Iranian city of Kerman, an explosion occurred on the road leading to the cemetery where General Qasim Suleimani was buried, IRNA reports.

"Currently, 73 people have been killed and 170 injured as a result of the terrorist attack in Kerman," the report said.

The local government called the explosions a terrorist attack.

According to Iran's state-run Tasnim news agency, two bag bombs were left at the entrance to the Gulzor mausoleum in the Kerman cemetery and may have been detonated by a remote device.

On the night of January 3, 2020, the United States conducted an operation to eliminate the commander of the Iranian special forces, Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Iraqi Shiite militia, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Washington considered them to be involved in the December 31, 2019 attack on the American embassy in Baghdad.

In response, Iran attacked American bases in Iraq, including Ain al-Assad. Initially, then US President Donald Trump and Pentagon officials announced that there were no casualties after the attack. Later, the military had to admit that there were wounded.
