825,000 children at risk in Sudan

According to UNICEF, the lives of an estimated 825,000 children are at risk in the besieged North Darfur region.

The fact is that the region is experiencing increasing levels of food, drinking water, and medicine shortages. 457,000 children are suffering from severe anemia due to malnutrition. 146,000 children are in critical condition.

The city of al-Fashir in the province has been under siege for seven months, with humanitarian aid being blocked due to fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Drinking water systems have been destroyed, fuel is in short supply, and the risk of epidemics is increasing. The UN and UNICEF are urging the parties to immediately cease fire. However, the humanitarian aid plan for 2025 is only 21% funded, and at least $4.2 billion is needed.
