17 Koreans convert to Islam at Seoul mosque

Seventeen South Koreans converted to Islam at the same time at a mosque in Seoul, according to Siasat.com. The men and women followed an imam in reciting verses from the Quran and then reciting the shahada, the declaration of faith in Islam.

Before converting to Islam, members of this group learned the basics of religion in courses at the mosque, which began in February. They were explained about Islamic teachings and religious practices.

There are currently about 200,000 Muslims living in Korea, some of whom are native Koreans and some are immigrants. The Korean Muslim Federation regularly organizes classes for those who want to learn about Islam.

Most of the students who complete these courses later convert to Islam.

One of the most famous people to convert to Islam in Korea is singer and YouTube blogger Dawood Kim. He converted to Islam in 2019. He currently shares his insights and personal experiences about what it's like to be a Muslim in Korea through his YouTube channel.
