"Judge between people with justice!"
"Peace be upon you, everyone present in this hall."
I, Mubashshir Ahmad, am being charged under 3 articles of the Criminal Code during the investigation and court hearings that began 5 months ago.
Although my lawyers have asked the religious committee to drop the charges of distributing religious material without permission, I admit that I distributed such material.
Because I was in Turkey at the time: I didn't know that I had to ask permission from the office in Uzbekistan for this, and I didn't have the physical means to do so.
I have also stated my innocence during the investigation regarding the remaining two charges (distribution of materials threatening public order and incitement of national hatred). We have also seen in the court proceedings that these charges were not proven. I still disagree with these charges.
Now let me share some of my thoughts.
In both our religion and our lives, a person's intention and purpose are very important when doing something.
For example, a person who goes to work to earn money to support his family will still receive reward.
Likewise, in human relationships, things depend on intentions. In all my writings and articles, my intention was to be impartial and to do good to people.
In particular, the alleged material (about Israel's genocide in Gaza) was intended to prevent people, especially young people, from leaving and to explain the situation.
There is a reason why I do not agree with the accusations of inciting national hatred. Because I have always called for interethnic harmony. Let me tell you about two major things I have done in this regard, not for show, but so that the court can take this into account.
First. A few years ago, people took to the streets in Nukus and the so-called "Karakalpak events" took place. Then, at the request of the administration of the President of Uzbekistan, I issued an appeal (https://kun.uz/80806384) calling on the two peoples to live in harmony and unity. I asked them to stop the conflicts and intrigues.
The second case. In 2019, a woman who was then the Deputy Director General of the Press and Information Agency, who insulted the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), went viral on social media. This caused a sharp and very harsh reaction in society, and the woman began to receive threats.
Even in such a situation, at the request of the Presidential Administration, I invited the woman to our Azon.uz website, talked to her, and explained the true purpose and situation. At that time, we took on a very heavy burden and succeeded in preventing various conspiracies.
I repeat once again, I am not saying this for show, but to inform and remind the court that my intention in my work has always been goodness and harmony.
I also ask that the judge take my health into account when sentencing me: I have suffered from diabetes for 21 years.
My kidneys are not working well, sometimes they seem fine, but sometimes my legs swell. I have a family and 7 children. I am responsible for their support.
To this day, my efforts to provide our people and youth with knowledge in the religious and educational fields continue. I have begun a 10-volume commentary on the Holy Quran entitled "The Scattered Flowers."
I have also begun the interpretation and translation of the collection "Sahih Bukhari" by our great ancestor Imam Bukhari. I intend to complete these works and provide new spiritual nourishment for our people.
No matter how I defend myself, the judge will decide this case. I ask you to take into account what I have said above when making your decision.
I will conclude my speech with the word of Allah: "When you judge between people, judge with justice. And Allah is All-Seeing, All-Knowing."
