Is it permissible to sacrifice for foreigners and minors?

The jurists are unanimous that slaughtering a sacrifice is obligatory on a Muslim, free, adult, resident, and one who meets the nisab.

In this article, we will discuss the sacrifice of a minor who is a Muslim, free, has reached the age of majority, and is traveling during Eid al-Adha, while also meeting the nisab.

First, if we talk about the sacrifice of a traveler, according to the Hanafi school of thought, it is not obligatory for a traveler to sacrifice a sacrifice. This is because Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) did not sacrifice a sacrifice while they were traveling. In this regard, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “There is no Friday prayer or sacrifice for a traveler.” This is because sacrificing a sacrifice while traveling imposes a number of hardships on a person. Moreover, since these acts of worship are performed at specific times, it is not possible to perform them after their time has passed. Therefore, our Sharia does not require a traveler to perform Friday prayer and sacrifice a sacrifice in order to relieve him of hardship.

Regarding the slaughtering of a sacrifice by a Muslim, free, resident, and possessing the nisab, but who has not yet reached puberty, according to the Hanafi school of thought, it is not obligatory for a person who has not reached puberty to slaughter a sacrifice, but is considered a mustahabb action.

If a father wants to sacrifice on behalf of his minor child, he must slaughter the animal with his own money, not with his child's money.
