IRREVOCABLE TO SALOME
CAVOL: Hello dear teachers. May Allah Ta'ala bless you with the work you have started. My question is, I heard that it is a sin not to accept greetings. Is that right?
ANSWER:
And hello. Greeting is a sunnah. It is obligatory to accept salam. When two believers meet each other, whether they are acquaintances or strangers, greeting them is one of the meritorious deeds.
The greeting should be said in full: "Assalamu alaykum" or "Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakotuh". The answer says "Wa alaykum assalam" or "Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakotuh". God blesses:
"When you are greeted with a salutation (phrase), you should make it more beautiful or return the same (phrase). Verily, Allah is All-Concerning" (Surah An-Nisa, verse 86).
Abdullah ibn Harith, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "If a person greets a people, he will receive a degree of grace. If the people do not accept it, the angels will accept it and curse the people."
If one person sends a greeting to another person, and the person in the middle conveys the greeting, it is obligatory to respond immediately. If the letter ends with a greeting, then an answer is also necessary. A loud greeting is given and the answer is also heard to the greeter. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: "Spread peace among you." After all, by greeting each other, we wish each other the blessings of health and peace. God bless you.
