"We are deeply saddened by the opening of the Kariya Mosque in Istanbul for worship," the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, we reported that the former Kariya Mosque, which was turned into a museum 79 years ago in Istanbul, resumed its activities as a mosque after 4 years of renovation and restoration work.
It has a separate entrance for tourists and worshipers, just like the Hagia Sophia Mosque, the mosque was built as a Christian temple in the 11th century during the Byzantine Empire. During the Ottoman Empire, it was converted into a mosque in the 16th century. After the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, it continued to function as a museum.
