Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan met on border demarcation

"The meeting took place in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding," the report said.
It was previously reported that the parties are finalizing the development and approval of draft legal and technical documents on this issue. After the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan on March 6-7, 2017, negotiations on the legal formalization of the 1,650 km long Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan border began.
Since then, specialists of the two countries have been carrying out field aerial photography and topographic-geodetic work on some sections of the common border. At the end of the event, a protocol was signed, which recorded the results of the discussions and the decisions made.
There are diasporas of Uzbeks in Turkmenistan (about 300,000) and Turkmens in Uzbekistan (about 200,000) on both sides of the border . Ashgabat and Tashkent have agreed to create a cross-border trade zone located on the border of the adjacent territories of the two countries - Tashkhovuz region of Turkmenistan and Khorezm region of Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that this meeting continues the cycle of joint actions that started earlier and emphasizes the desire of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to resolve border issues through dialogue and cooperation.
The previous meeting of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan joint commission on demarcation was held on January 5-11 in the city of Bukhara, where important discussions were held and joint decisions were made.
