The next step is to obtain a license to operate the first power unit, which will allow the reactor to start loading nuclear fuel and start pre-launch control operations.
"The decision of the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Agency to allow the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP to be put into operation confirms that we have fulfilled all the requirements of Turkish legislation, international standards for the construction of nuclear power plants and are ready to continue. We are entering a new, important and responsible stage in the life of the project," said Anastasiya Zoteeva, CEO of "Akkuyu Nuclear".
First Deputy General Director of Rosatom, Director of Development and International Business Kirill Komarov also noted that this year is very important for the project.
According to Komarov, a lot of work still needs to be done to complete the project.
"At the moment, the main construction works of the first power unit have been completed, and the start-up and operation works are going on in parallel. There is a long time ahead to test the functionality of all systems. All these works are carried out with responsibility and precision, in compliance with all technical regulations and safety requirements," he said.
He called the active participation of Turkish citizens in the process of commissioning the power plant an important aspect of the project.
