General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev stated that the Turkish government has made a political decision to entrust the construction of the second nuclear power plant in the country to Rosatom .

"President Erdogan publicly announced that a political decision was made to transfer another field to us. We are currently working on the details. Most likely, it will be a field called "Sinop", Likhachev said.

The first unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey, which is being built by Rosatom, will be commissioned in July 2025.

The Akkuyu NPP construction project is being implemented on the basis of the contract signed between Russia and Turkey on May 12, 2010.

The nuclear power plant consists of four energy units with reactor units with a capacity of 1.2 thousand MW each. When Akkuyu is operational and at full capacity, it will produce approximately 35 billion kWh of electricity per year.
