The delegation of Azerbaijan to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has suspended its activities in the structure . "No one in the world, including those sitting in this room, can speak the language of threats and blackmail with Azerbaijan. Never in the history of PACE has this organization behaved so shamelessly. "Despite the intolerable atmosphere of racism, Azeriphobia and Islamophobia created in the European Parliamentary Assembly, the delegation of Azerbaijan has decided to suspend its cooperation and participation in the European Parliamentary Assembly until further notice," the Azerbaijani delegation said in a statement.

The delegation's statement noted that for nineteen years from 2001 to 2020, PACE failed to hold the aggressor state Armenia accountable for its actions contrary to the core values and principles of the Council of Europe. In particular, this is related to the blatant disregard for the human rights of ethnically cleansed Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons.

"After Azerbaijan's historic victory over aggression, invasion and violent separatism, as well as the restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, we are faced with an organized smear campaign to vilify Azerbaijan and overshadow the republic's achievements in restoring justice that has been denied to Azerbaijanis for a long time . For nearly two decades, when the Azerbaijani delegation raised the issue of the dire consequences of the Armenian invasion, we were told that PACE was not an appropriate format for discussing conflict-related issues. But now the same PACE and the same MPs are saying the opposite and are not missing a single opportunity to attack Azerbaijan," the statement said.

According to the statement, the selective interpretation of international law, different attitudes to issues related to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states indicate the cynical and hypocritical character of the authors of this shameful proposal.

Unfortunately, PACE is used as a platform to attack some Member States. The core principles of PACE are exploited by certain biased groups to advance their narrow interests. Political corruption, discrimination, ethnic and religious enmity, double standards, arrogance and chauvinism have become common practices in PACE.

According to the delegation of Azerbaijan, the initiative to challenge the powers of the delegation of Azerbaijan in the European Parliamentary Assembly is part of this evil campaign.

According to Azerbaijani parliamentarians, this initiative is a clear example of a deliberate and inappropriate attempt to unreasonably interfere with the ongoing election process in Azerbaijan and insidious actions to undermine the functioning of democratic institutions in the country.
