Kentucky Governor Andy Bescher announced at a press conference that five people have died in the state as a result of the natural disaster.
Officials also reported that 8 people died in Arkansas, 7 in Texas and 2 in Oklahoma.
In addition, more than 400,000 households in the country were deprived of electricity.
US President Joe Biden expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the natural disaster in a post on X's social network.
The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency assessed the damage, he said.
The president said that the United States is ready to help if needed.
