More than 800 elderly men and women, including a 105-year-old woman, participated in a literacy campaign launched by the Saudi Ministry of Education this summer through the General Directorate of Education in Jizan, Arab News reported.

233 men and 599 women study in 28 educational centers located in Samta, Ahad al-Masariha, El-Hart and El-Arida districts of the province.

One of them is 105-year-old Shakraa Tokhari, who learned to read and write at Al-Dabra Education Center in Ahad Al-Masarih.

According to him, he enjoyed writing letters of the alphabet standing in front of the blackboard, writing and reading numbers while sitting, reciting Surah Fatiha or short chapters from the Holy Qur'an.

"Even though I'm over 100 years old, I'm passionate about learning to read and write. It's a dream I've been waiting for for many years, decades," he said.

"Despite all the difficulties and my old age, this dream has come true. This is a golden opportunity that I never miss," said Tohari.

Onakhan said that she raised five sons and four daughters throughout her life. He gave them education and dedicated his life to them. He wanted to teach them something and help them with their homework.
