16 people were killed in the conflict that started in Mushu, Plateau State, where clashes between herdsmen and farmers often occur in northern Nigeria.

At least 16 people have been killed in clashes between mainly Muslim herdsmen and Christian farmers in the town of Mushu, where killings and village raids by heavily armed gangs are frequent.

There is no clear statement about what caused the conflict and who is responsible.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the incidents as "barbaric and brutal" and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.

"The government will take necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening again," he said.

In May of this year, in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where ethnic and religious conflicts often occur, armed men raided villages, killing at least 100 people.
