Meta apologized for deleting the Malaysian Prime Minister's posts about the Hamas leader
Meta Platforms has apologized for removing content related to the killing of H AMAS leader Ismail Haniya from the Facebook and Instagram accounts of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim .
After posts expressing sympathy for Haniya's death were deleted, Malaysia contacted Meta and demanded an explanation.
"We apologize for an operational error that led to the removal of content from the Malaysian prime minister's Facebook and Instagram pages," a spokesman told Reuters in an email, adding that the posts had been restored with "correct information labeling."
Malaysia's communications minister and officials from the prime minister's office met with Meta officials on Monday to seek an explanation .
"The Prime Minister's Office views Meta's actions as discrimination, injustice and a gross violation of freedom of expression," the office said in a statement on Monday.
On August 4, Anwar Ibrahim attended a rally in support of Palestine in Kuala Lumpur. The live stream was also briefly suspended due to an intellectual property rights violation complaint related to the music, the statement said.
According to the office, the reason for deleting the records was the presence in them of elements about "dangerous persons or organizations".
Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim condemned the Meta Corporation after it deleted posts from its Facebook and Instagram pages on the death of Ismail Haniya, the head of the Palestinian political bureau of the Hamas movement.
It should be noted that Instagram also deleted posts related to Haniya's death without any justification in Turkey. The platform has been blocked for several days. The expected results were not achieved in the 6-hour long talks between the two sides yesterday.
