McDonald's Malaysia sued the organizers of the boycott.

McDonald's Malaysia has sued organizers of the boycott, accusing them of spreading "false and defamatory information". This is reported by Reuters.

Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd, a McDonald's licensee in the country, claims it lost 6 million ringgit ($1.31 million) in revenue over two months as a result of the boycott.

BDS has previously claimed on social media that the restaurant chain is unjustifiably linking the restaurant chain to "Israel's genocidal war against the Palestinians in Gaza," saying the boycott has resulted in lost profits and job losses, including store closures or reduced hours.

McDonald's Malaysia said in a statement on October 15 that the company is "100% Muslim-owned" and that the actions of its franchisees in Israel do not reflect its values. Two days later, the company announced that it had donated 1 million ringgit (about $220,000) to the Palestine Humanitarian Fund.
