Germany is deploying its troops abroad for the first time since World War II

After Germany's defeat in the Second World War, it was the first time that Germany deployed its troops outside its borders - in Lithuania. Newsweek reports about it .

The Minister of Defense of Lithuania met with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius and agreed on the "Road Map" action plan for the deployment of military forces in the territory of the Baltic country.

As part of this "Road Map", around 4,800 German soldiers will be stationed in the Lithuanian cities of Kaunas and Vilnius. The deployment of troops will begin in 2024 and most of them will take up their deployments in 2025-26. From 2027, it will be fully operational.

Two aspects of the program are noteworthy. First, Lithuania provides all necessary civil and military infrastructure. The second is that military personnel act with their families.
