The head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, opposed the wearing of face-covering clothes, including masks, by women "from the point of view of security". Nevertheless, he does not think that wearing a mask is a manifestation of radicalism. Melikov spoke about this at the meeting of the National Assembly.

He said that Dagestan is unfairly called a "radical republic". The success of Dagestan athletes in MMA and freestyle wrestling, as well as the fact that women wear masks, is no reason to say so.

"Personally, as a counter-terrorism officer, I am against wearing a mask. Because the burqa is a garment not characteristic of the Caucasian peoples, and the niqab allows men to hide behind scarves, and women to carry forbidden things," explained Melikov.

Let us remind you that in May, Valery Fadeev, the chairman of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia, called for a ban on wearing masks in Russia. The Religious Department of Muslims of the Russian Federation also expressed its support for the ban on the burqa.
