The UAE government is considering declaring Friday a national holiday and reducing working hours from 9 to 7 hours. Experts emphasize that the reduction of working days and hours does not have a negative effect on work productivity, but on the contrary, it causes workers to use their time effectively.

The UAE authorities are studying the possibility of further shortening the working week, reports Al-Arabiya.

Three years ago, the Friday working day was cut in half in Dubai so that workers could arrive on time for Friday prayers. In 2022, the working week in Sharjah was reduced to 4 days and Fridays were declared a day off.

On August 12, the government of Dubai introduced a four-day summer work week for civil servants until September 30, as it is difficult for citizens to work in the summer heat, which exceeds 40 degrees.

UAE officials are currently studying the effects of the reduced working hours and are considering extending the four-day work week across the country, as well as reducing the working day from 9 hours to 7 hours.

Mursalin Khawaja, director of the Madison Pearl recruiting agency, is positive about this prospect.

According to him, the reduction in working hours "had a positive psychological effect on workers without any effect on productivity, because workers began to use their time more effectively."
