On Wednesday, August 14, a military parade was held in Afghanistan to mark the third anniversary of the withdrawal of American troops from the country. The event took place at the former Bagrom base, which served as a mainstay of US-led operations against the Taliban for two decades.

The Bagrom parade was the largest Taliban event since the Taliban regained control of the country in August 2021. The Taliban used military equipment, including helicopters and fighter jets, borrowed from the Western armies led by the two most powerful powers in the world - the USSR and the USA.

Similar parades and processions were held in other cities of Afghanistan.

We remind you that the Afghan Taliban took over Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on August 15, 2021, after the US-backed government fell and its leaders left the country. The anniversary is celebrated one day earlier according to the Afghan calendar.

Despite progress in security and poppy control, the country continues to face a number of challenges. The government of Afghanistan is not recognized by any other country.

In early June, the Kazakh government removed the Taliban movement from the list of terrorists in order to actively involve Afghanistan in interregional relations, and in July, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Taliban movement an ally of Russia in the fight against terrorism.
