The President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev supported the peace plan of Brazil and China to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. On September 16, he spoke about this in a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who visited Astana.

"Further escalation of the war will have irreparable consequences for all humanity, first of all, for all countries directly involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Unfortunately, by refusing to conclude the Istanbul agreement, at least a good chance to achieve peace was lost. But there is still a chance to achieve peace," Tokaev said.

The head of Kazakhstan called Russia's "militarily intractable" a "fact" and called for "careful consideration of all peace initiatives" of various countries.

"In our opinion, the peace plan of China and Brazil deserves support. Heads of state come and go, and peoples, especially neighboring peoples, should live in peace and harmony," Toqaev said.

"Kazakhstan has the longest land border with Russia in the world, and cooperation within the framework of strategic partnership and alliance between our countries is developing. In Kazakhstan, they treat the Ukrainian people and their unique culture with sincere sympathy. There has never been any disagreement between our countries. The embassy of our country in Kyiv continues its activities," he added.

According to the Akorda press service, Tokaev spoke about the Russian-Ukrainian war at the request of Scholz.
