The President of Kazakhstan Qasim -Jomart Tok aev met with the spiritual leader of Catholics - Pope Francis in the Vatican. According to the statement of the presidential administration, Tokaev met with Pope Francis on the second day of his visit to Italy.

During the meeting, Tokaev said that multi-confessional Kazakhstan is home to the largest Catholic community in Central Asia.

"In our country, representatives of different religions can perform their religious duties in their shrines. Protection of the right to religious freedom is an integral part of our policy," he said.

It is noted that Tokaev thanked Pope Francis for his efforts to end conflicts in the world .

"The current geopolitical turmoil is undermining the entire global security and causing enormous human suffering and economic hardship. As a responsible country, Kazakhstan makes a great contribution to maintaining global peace and security. We participate in peacekeeping missions of the United Nations in various hotspots of the planet ," he added.

Pope Francis also thanked Tokaev for his contribution to peace and stability.

Tokaev also met with Vatican Secretary of State (Foreign Minister) Paul Richard Gallagher and visited the Vatican Museum.
