A Koran competition was held in a prison in Russia
A Koran competition was held among prisoners in the correctional colony in the Republic of Mordovia of the Russian Federation. The winners in the nominations of correct recitation of the Holy Qur'an and call to prayer were presented with the Holy Qur'an and souvenirs.
A Koran recitation competition was held among prisoners of correctional colony No. 12 under the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Republic of Mordovia, Islam News reports.
The competition was organized by the Central Religious Department of Muslims of the Republic of Mordovia and the regional Federal Service for the Execution of Punishment.
The purpose of the competition is to "return convicts to spiritual education and a law-abiding life, to form a respectful attitude towards the individual and the state by understanding the universal commandments of the Holy Scriptures, to encourage them to reform; forming good neighborly relations between representatives of traditional religions and representatives of different nationalities, preventing radical and extremist ideas from entering places of deprivation of liberty; is to promote the best achievements and traditions of the peoples living in Russia and the CIS countries for the purpose of integration and mutual understanding," said Shamil Sobitov, chairman of the Central Religious Department of Mordovian Muslims.
The competition was held in 2 nominations. Ahmed Abdelfattah won the first place, Arsen Jalolov took the second place, and Akbarjon Tolanboev took the third place in the nomination "Correct reading of the Holy Quran in the original language ". The second category is "Saying the call to prayer". In this nomination, the places were distributed as follows: first place - Ravshanbek Hamidov, second place - Jahangir Toirov, third place - Beksulton Abjaparov.
At the end of the event, the participants of the competition were awarded certificates, and the winners received diplomas and valuable gifts : a Quran and a set of gifts.
Earlier, it was reported that synagogues for Orthodox and Muslims were opened in correctional colony No. 6 in Mordovia.
