"Experts predict that 2024 could be one of the warmest years on record due to the large-scale El Niño climate event in the Pacific Ocean, which will have a major impact on global temperatures, which will already peak in 2023. Therefore, there is a high probability that the temperature will increase further in 2024," said Aqilbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The head of the Kyrgyz government focused on long-term forecasts and noted that economic problems can affect the whole of Central Asia. According to him, the region's population is expected to grow by 27% by 2050, which will increase the need for food by 35% and drinking water by 50%.
Japarov emphasized that in the future, water resources and green energy should be the main link of cooperation between the countries of Central Asia. The head of the Cabinet expressed the opinion that these resources should become the basis of sustainable development of all countries in the region.
At the end of 2023, Shavkat Mirziyoev, a resident of Uzbekistan, announced that in 2024, he intends to introduce an emergency austerity regime due to the irrational use of water, noting that this has caused serious problems for the country's economy.
