Over the last eight years, the number of Uzbek labor migrants in Russia has decreased at least four times
Sherzod Asadov, press secretary of the president, informed Sevimli TV about this.

"Until 2016, the number of migrant workers in Russia averaged from 4 million to 6 million, but today they are 1 million. The presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia also mentioned this information, but most of our analysts did not pay attention to it," said Asadov.

Asadov said that the migration agencies of the two countries have agreed on a limit of 1 million migrants. He attributed the return of several million Uzbek citizens to the country with the success of economic reforms in Uzbekistan.

According to the Russian authorities, in 2016 there were about 2 million citizens of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation. In the fall of 2022, from January to September, it was reported that more than 4.46 million people came from Uzbekistan to work in Russia. According to the FSB report, in the first quarter of 2023 alone, more than 630,000 citizens of Uzbekistan entered Russia for employment.

In 2024, citizens of Uzbekistan began to leave their homelands against the background of the tightening of the migration policy and the ban on the work of migrants from outside the EOII countries in some regions.
