The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that about 630,000 illegal immigrants live in the country. In order for them to leave the country voluntarily, a special register of controlled persons will be introduced in 2025. It is noted that in 2023, the number of labor migrants legally in the Russian Federation did not exceed 3.5 million people. Most of them are citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Currently, the number of illegal immigrants in Russia has reached 630,000. Relevant figures were announced at the meeting of the government commission on migration policy chaired by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, Kommersant writes, citing sources.

According to the publication, the meeting discussed, in particular, the creation of a special register of controlled persons, which includes information on migrants whose migration documents have been canceled or expired, as well as migrants who have committed an administrative offense and must be deported.

According to Alexander Gorovoi, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, there are currently about 630,000 illegal migrants who have violated the regime of stay in the Russian Federation, committed two or more administrative offenses, or are engaged in illegal labor activities, writes "Kommersant".

Gorovoy said that if all illegal immigrants were to be included in the proposed registry at once, "no IT infrastructure would be able to handle it," so he proposed an amnesty for illegal immigrants who commit relatively minor offenses first.

Vladislav Menshchikov, the head of the counterintelligence service of the Federal Security Service, said that he can support this proposal of the deputy head of the FSB Ministry of Internal Affairs, writes "Kommersant".

It is noted that in 2023, the number of labor migrants legally in the Russian Federation did not exceed 3.5 million people. Most of them are citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

In order to encourage the voluntary departure of illegal immigrants from the country, it is planned to introduce the register of controlled persons in 2025 .

At the end of June of this year, the State Duma adopted the draft law, which stipulates the procedure for the distribution of immigrants in the Russian Federation and provides for the creation of such a register. The President signed this document on August 8 and it should enter into force on February 5.

Let's remind that after the act of subversion in the "Crocus City Hall" complex in March of this year, which killed 145 people, the issue of strengthening the migration policy in Russia is being actively discussed by the authorities. Citizens of Tajikistan became suspects in this terrorist attack .
