Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas visited Russia and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, Vladimir Putin emphasized the need to implement all UN resolutions and, first of all, to create a full-fledged Palestinian state in order to ensure long-term, reliable and stable peace in the region. In turn, Mahmoud Abbas said that Russia is always on the side of the law, on the side of the truth and is "one of the dearest friends of the Palestinian people."

Russia has always supported a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, said this during a meeting with the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Novo-Ogaryovo.

"We have a common position with you, the roots of this problem go back to the long past and are related to disregarding the decisions taken at the level of international organizations, first of all at the level of the UN, on the creation of an independent Palestinian state," he said.

Putin noted that the position of the Russian Federation on this issue is "unchanged". "It was created a long time ago and is not contingent on any situation. "We believe that in order to ensure long-term, reliable and stable peace in the region, it is necessary to implement all UN resolutions and, first of all, to create a full-fledged Palestinian state," said the Russian president.

"Everyone knows that today, unfortunately, Russia has to defend its interests and protect its people with weapons in hand, but the events happening in the Middle East, in Palestine, certainly do not escape our attention," the Russian president added.

Putin also noted that Russia "watches the humanitarian disaster in Palestine with great pain and concern."

"For our part, we will do everything to support the Palestinian people. As you know, we sent about 700 tons of various goods. We will do everything we can to support the Palestinian people. First of all, we are concerned about civilian casualties. According to the UN, this number has already reached 40,000 people, and they are mostly women and children," Putin said.

In turn, Mahmoud Abbas said that Russia is always on the side of the law, on the side of the truth, and is "one of the dearest friends of the Palestinian people."

At the same time, Abbas focused on the subversive role of the UN in the Palestinian issue due to US pressure.

"Since 1947, the UN has adopted more than a thousand resolutions on the Palestinian issue in the General Assembly and the Security Council, but due to the pressure of the United States, it ultimately failed to fulfill its mission and did not adopt a single resolution to ensure the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people," Abbas said.

According to him, the Palestinian Authority also considers the attempts to forcibly evict Palestinians from their territories unacceptable.

"We [Israel] will not accept the continuation of the policy of forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jerusalem - this strategy was carried out several times in the last century: for example in 1948 or 1967," Abbas said.

The resolutions adopted by the International Court of Justice show the need for Israel to abandon its steps that do not comply with international humanitarian law, he added.
