Despite many objections, the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) based on a Russian project near Lake Tuzkon in Jizzakh has begun. The project has been discussed by Uzbekistan and Russia since 2017. Finally, in 2019, a site near Tuzkon Lake was chosen. In addition to the large NPP, it is also planned to build small modular reactors with a total capacity of 330 MW. Rosatom is the main contractor of the project, supported by Uzbek companies.
