About 50,000 people died last year due to the record hot weather observed in Europe. In 2023, heat-related deaths were highest in Greece at 393 deaths per million people, followed by 209 in Italy and 175 in Spain. The continent is currently warming faster than any other part of the world.
Protests that started at Columbia University in the USA in mid-April have spread all over the world. Students from around the world are gathering on their campuses to protest Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, as well as to support the protests that began at Columbia University. To date, more than 2,500 people have been arrested during the protests.
