"We are even behind some African countries." Senator spoke about justice
Senator Abdurakhim Erkaev said at the Senate plenary session that Uzbekistan lags behind some African countries in terms of justice. According to him, the results of the work carried out in recent years to reform the judicial system are not visible.
"We have dropped five places in the Rule of Law Index of the Global Justice Project, ranking 83rd. We have dropped five places. It was a different story when we moved up five places. Now, in the sub-indicator of high access to civil justice, which is part of the same index, our country's position has dropped 10 places in the past year, moving from 96th to 106th place. We are also behind some African countries," the senator said.
This situation indicates the difficulty of achieving justice in resolving disputes, the waning trust in the judicial system, and the lack of awareness among the population of the principles of justice and impartiality in considering appeals.
Abdurakhim Erkaev noted that various surveys are also conducted among the population when calculating these indicators, adding that people's trust in certain areas of the judicial system is declining.
