Victory Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan
On November 8, the fourth anniversary of Victory in the Patriotic War will be celebrated in Azerbaijan.
From the first hours of the counteroffensive operation, which began on September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani army broke through the strong defense line of the Armed Forces of Armenia, and a number of occupied villages in the Fizuli and Jabrail districts of the republic, as well as strategic heights, including the Murov peak on the Murovdag ridge, were recaptured.
During the entire 44-day war, the Azerbaijani army liberated the lands that had been under the occupation of Armenia for decades.
In particular, the city of Jabrail was captured on October 4, and the villages of Jabrail, Fuzuli, Terter, Khojavend districts, including the village of Hadrut, were captured by October 9.
On October 17, the city of Fuzuli was liberated from Armenian occupation, and a day later, on October 18, the Azerbaijani flag was installed on the famous Khudaferin bridge.
By October 19-20, a number of other settlements in Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Khojavend and Zangilon districts, including the city of Zangilon, were captured.
With the liberation of Agband village of Zangilon district on October 22, Azerbaijan ensured full control of the state border with Iran.
On October 21-26, 2020, settlements in Zangilon, Jabrail, Fuzuli, Khojavend, Gubadli districts and the city of Gubadli were liberated. This allowed the Azerbaijani army to take control of the main highway connecting Armenia with the separatists in Karabakh.
The liberation of Shusha on November 8 completely broke the resistance and morale of the Armenian armed forces and forced Yerevan to surrender.
From the beginning of the operation, from September 27 to November 9, 2020, the Azerbaijani army liberated 5 cities, 4 towns and more than 286 villages from Armenian invaders.
On November 10, the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Russia signed a statement on a complete ceasefire and all military operations in Karabakh.
According to the statement, on November 20, Agdam district was returned to Azerbaijan - thus 73% of the region, including the city of Agdam, was freed from occupation.
On November 25, Kalbajar district was returned to Azerbaijan - 147 settlements, including the city of Kalbajar, were freed from occupation.
On December 1, Lochin district was returned to Azerbaijan.
On December 3, 2020, President Ilhom Aliev signed a decree to designate September 27 as the Day of Remembrance in Azerbaijan.
According to another decree of the head of Azerbaijan, the day of the liberation of Shusha from occupation - November 8, is solemnly celebrated as Victory Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
