The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan met with his Bahamian counterpart, the country's foreign minister, Frederick Mitchell, in New York, USA. The parties noted that despite the long distance between the two countries, there are many important opportunities for establishing effective relations.

Thus, the Bahamas, located in Central America, became the 155th country to establish diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan.

Earlier, Uzbekistan signed documents on establishing diplomatic relations with Seychelles, Cape Verde, Liberia and Togo.
