US rabbis ask Trump to extend Abraham Accords to Turkic states

More than 50 rabbis have formally appealed to US President Donald Trump to expand the Abraham Accords to include Turkic countries, saying the move would strengthen ties between Israel and Muslim countries.

What is the Abraham Accords?

The Abraham Accords are historic diplomatic agreements to normalize relations between Israel and a number of Arab states, signed in 2020–2021 under US mediation. These agreements include:

The UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco have officially recognized Israel and established diplomatic relations.

Cooperation between the countries has been strengthened in the areas of trade, tourism, security, and technology.

Arab states have approved a solution to the Palestinian problem through negotiations with Israel.

Cooperation between Turkic countries and Israel

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, as suggested by the rabbis, have been actively developing economic and strategic cooperation with Israel in recent years:

Azerbaijan supplies Israel with oil and purchases military equipment from it. In 2023, Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Israel.

Kazakhstan cooperates with Israel in the fields of agriculture and high technology. Israel is actively involved in water management projects in Kazakhstan.

Uzbekistan is strengthening cooperation with Israel in the areas of healthcare, agriculture, and innovation. Trade between the two countries has increased sharply in recent years.

If this initiative is implemented, Israel's influence on the geopolitical situation in Central Asia and the Caucasus is expected to significantly increase.
