Tokayev said he would step down as president in 2029
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced that he will step down from the presidency in 2029, when his current seven-year term ends.
He emphasized that the president of any country is not God's ambassador on earth, but an ordinary servant of the people.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Tokayev said that such a decision is in line with his personal choice, as expected by the public.
"I announced my resignation in 2029. Because this is the personal demand of my people and myself," he said.
The Kazakh leader emphasized that he views the role of president as that of a state manager.
For your information, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took office as President of Kazakhstan on March 20, 2019, after the resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev. He won the snap elections held in June 2019, gaining more than 70 percent of the vote.
