"Citizens of the Republic of Turkey who come to pray will continue to enter the prayer area free of charge, and tourists who come to visit the gallery floor will enter the gallery floor by purchasing a ticket at the entrance," said the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on January 11.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, announced in October of last year that a fee will be collected from foreign tourists visiting the Hagia Sophia Mosque.
In his statement, Minister Ersoy drew attention to the fact that foreign tourists visiting Hagia Sophia will be charged for tickets starting from January 15, 2024, and said, "Our Turkish citizens will be free to visit Hagia Sophia as before. This practice exists in many countries of the world."
